How It All Started
Starting out, I never thought I’d end up as an Author Platform Coach.
Back in 2013 I decided to write a romance novel. I hit a moment where I was like, “Hey, I can totally write one of these.” Next thing I know I was daydreaming about characters and storylines.
But here’s the thing—I had no idea how to actually write a book, let alone get people to read it.
While I was trying to figure out how to write the darn thing, I stumbled across the term Author Platform. After learning what it is, I found myself really interested in the process of building one. I ran to my local library to read all that I could find about it. In the end the information I learned ended up pushing my career down a really cool path I never expected.
My Story
When I was writing my book and building my author platform, I started a blog to share what I was learning. This blog began to attract other new writers who were on the same journey. It wasn’t long before I started getting questions in the comments and emails asking for advice. At first, I wasn’t sure about giving advice and stuck with sharing resources. However, overtime, with the help of my 9-5 job, I gained a wealth of knowledge not just about author platforms but about what search engines were looking for and how to gain traction on social media.
In the end I learned that I actually enjoyed helping out my fellow writers more than I enjoyed writing my book. So I pushed the book to the side and focused on learning all that I could about Website SEO and Social Media Strategy.
In 2016, I got into SEO professionally and social media marketing, learning all the tricks of the trade. By 2018, I was using these skills to help people on Fiverr, evaluate their websites and social media platforms. This experience made me realize I could do more and gave me the experience to back up that confidence. So, I decided to use the knowledge I gained to help my fellow authors more formally through Author Platform Coaching.
